Aurora College's board of governors is about to start looking for a new chairperson.
Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Caitlin Cleveland announced on March 19 that chairperson Joe Handley is leaving the role. Filling the vacant seat and appointing a new chairperson will begin soon, according to a GNWT news release.
"The GNWT remains committed to strong, independent governance as Aurora College continues to evolve as an armSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s-length institution," the news release reads. "The Aurora College Mandate Agreement 2025-2028 provides a clear roadmap for the next phase of transformation, focusing on governance improvements, infrastructure development and academic and research excellence."
Cleveland thanked Handley, a former NWT premier, for his contributions to Aurora College.
"His leadership helped strengthen governance and guide the institution as it moves toward becoming a polytechnic university," the minister said.
The territorial government says it will soon issue a public service announcement inviting anyone interested in being an Aurora College board member to apply.
"Once the process is complete, a new chairperson will be appointed from among the members of the board," according to the GNWT.
