The 's Major Crimes Unit is now looking for a B.C. man in relation to the shootings in Fort Providence that left one man dead and two others injured.

Krystian Cogswell, 22, of Surrey, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Cogswell is still at large, according to police, and is considered armed and dangerous.

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for his arrest with the investigation showing that Cogswell fled Fort Providence immediately after the shooting and has likely made his way somewhere south of the NWT.

Cogswell is also wanted on a separate warrant issued by Inuvik in connection with drug trafficking offences from July 2024. At the time of the Fort Providence shooting, Cogswell was out on bail, was required to stay within B.C. and not be anywhere inside the NWT.

Fort Providence received a series of calls on March 15 indicating that three people had been shot in a residence in the community. When officers arrived, they found a 31-year-old man already dead inside the residence. Another injured male was found on scene and was subsequently transported to the community's health centre. A third male had already been taken to the health centre prior to police arriving and was subsequently medevaced to Yellowknife to receive emergency treatment at Stanton Territorial Hospital.
