It looks like a streak of black paint has covered up the 'Suck it Niven! :).' message that onced graced the Northlands' welcome signs. How much of a role the city had in this remains unclear.

NorthlandsSA国际影视传媒 welcome sign at its front en- trance no longer features that very specific message to Niven.

Originally ingrained in one of the eight ptarmigan that make up the bottom of each sign read SA国际影视传媒楽uck it Niven ! :).SA国际影视传媒 Now, it appears that message has been covered up with a streak of black paint.

Abby Schelew, a communications advisor for the city, originally responded to YellowkniferSA国际影视传媒檚 questions about the sign by referring to Bylaw 5045, which notes that all signs re-quire a development permit from the city.

SA国际影视传媒淭he City of Yellowknife will approve or decline a development permit based on several factors, including the content of the sign,SA国际影视传媒 Schelew wrote, adding that the municipality would address the sign, referring to it as an issue and would work with the Northlands community to find a resolution.

When he was asked about it, Coun. Garett Cochrane said the sign change was purely a voluntary decision, adding that he found out about the sign change on Sept. 16 through word of mouth.
