Yellowknife residents are likely familiar with the annual Christmas sale through the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts. But take it from the guild's vice-president, Wendy Stephenson, every year brings something new.
"It's never the same," Stephenson said. "It's great to look at it all."
The sale takes place at 113 Kam Lake Road and spans two weekends: Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. And Dec. 7 and Dec. 8. The sale will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
Stephenson said people can expect to see things like pottery, fibre arts and stained glass on offer. Those, she added, are disciplines that have been taught through the guild.
She explained that guild members who spend their year practising their craft get a chance to make money from it this time of year, thanks to the Christmas event. Fifteen per cent of total amount raised, however, also goes to the guild itself.
"The quality of work is amazing, I think people will be pleasantly surprised by the new types work that are coming up by different potters," said Stephenson.
She added that the guild has been holding this sale for more than 30 years. For this year, she said about 20 vendors are taking part in it, and she'll be among them.
"I'm a potter," she said, noting she'll have bowls, mugs and plates available for purchase. It's an art she's been involved in for more than 20 years.
Anyone eager to take part can reserve a time slot on the guild's website for 20 minutes.
