The victim in Friday's collision in downtown Yellowknife has died.

According to a statement from police on Saturday afternoon, the 62-year-old female who was hit by a truck at the intersection of 50 Street and 50 Avenue was taken to hospital, but pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the truck, who remained at the scene, has since been arrested by police after officers at the scene believed the individual was intoxicated.

That person remains in custody as of Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Police believe that there are witnesses who saw what happened. They're also looking for anyone with cell phone video or photos, dashcam footage or security camera footage from businesses in the area they can share.

If you have any information that could help police piece things together, you're asked to call Yellowknife at 867-669-1111 or submit a tip online to Crime Stoppers at p3tips.com.
