A 54-year-old Fort Good Hope resident has been charged with second-degree murder following a deadly stabbing in the community, the announced on July 24.
On June 15, local responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence in the community of just over 500 people. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and was later transported out of the community for further care. Meanwhile the accused, Floyd Kakfwi, was located and arrested by officers "without incident."
Kakfwi was briefly held in local cells, but when Fort Good Hope was evacuated due to encroaching wildfires, he was released from custody "on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date to answer to a charge of aggravated assault."
On June 28, in the midst of Fort Good Hope's evacuation order, the victim of the stabbing died as a result of his injuries.
On July 22, Kakwfi was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He appeared before a justice of the peace and was taken into custody.
His next court appearance is set for July 24.
