officers in Fort Providence arrested two Saskatchewan youth on Aug. 30 and seized "a firearm and ammunition, approximately 108 grams of suspected crack-cocaine, $1,220 in cash as well as other weapons and drug paraphernalia" in the process.
The arrests occurred after the community's detachment received a report about two suspicious persons loitering outside a local business. Officers investigated the report and found that both individuals had active arrests warrants. Both were arrested, at which point the firearm, drugs, and other items were confiscated.
The two youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are aged 16 and 17. They're both facing multiple charges, including:
-possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
-possession of property obtained by crime under $5.000
-possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without licence SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” carrying a concealed weapon (two counts)
-possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
-careless use of a firearm (two counts)
The 16-year-old is also facing three additional counts of failure to comply with a probation order. The 17-year-old is facing an additional count of possession of a weapon contrary to a court order.
Both subjects remain in police custody.
SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½œI would like to once again sincerely thank our community for the support they give us in reporting suspicious activities," said Cpl. Kevin Devoe, Fort Providence detachment commander. "This call started small but ultimately led to a significant drug seizure and the removal of an illegal firearm from our streets."
