If you live in Fort Smith, you now have one more option available to you for sports and recreation.

The Fort Smith Table Tennis Club is officially up and running at the town's recreation centre, and the community seems to be buzzing with excitement. This long-awaited initiative is set to bring together table tennis enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

Lesley Paulette has been the driving force behind this project, dedicating years of hard work to make it a reality. She has previously assisted with officials' clinics, participated in the 2024 Canada 55-Plus Games for table tennis, and organized the Prince Table Tennis fundraiser a few years back.

Her passion for the game is evident, and she is eager to share it with the community.

"I am so excited to see this finally getting off the ground in our community," she said. "Table tennis is an amazing sport that everyone can play and itSA国际影视传媒檚 so much fun. There are opportunities for young people to develop their skills and even try out for the Arctic Winter Games. And for old people like me, it keeps our bodies and our minds active. WhatSA国际影视传媒檚 not to love about that?"

The club will be using the legacy tables left over from the 2018 Arctic Winter Games to facilitate sessions for both adults and youths. Adult sessions will take place on Mondays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., while youth sessions will be held on Fridays from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Racquets and balls will be provided for those who don't have any.

Emily Prescott, the town's recreation and special events co-ordinator, said she's excited to introduce table tennis to the community and help grow the sport.

"My vision for this initiative is to open doors to new opportunities, not only for local players but also for surrounding communities," she said. "I hope to establish Fort Smith as a hub for table tennis, where players of all skill levels can come together and build meaningful connections.SA国际影视传媒

The official opening of the Table Tennis Club will take place on April 25 at the recreation centre's front foyer 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. It's a chance for community members to come together, learn about the sport, and meet fellow table tennis enthusiasts.
