The territorial government is putting out the call as part of what it calls its commitment to transition to a "hybrid public board of directors." That means any member of the public can apply.

For nearly a decade, the power corp. board has been made up of just GNWT employees with the mandate being to manage the corporation and exercise its powers and duties under the NWT Power Corporation ActAccording to the Department of Infrastructure, the board has between six and 10 directors but right now, only two out of seven current positions are filled.

The current board members are Terence Courtoreille and Robert Jenkins, who are both serving their first term which began on April 1, 2023.

"The Board will be composed of four to eight public members, while two representatives from the GNWT public service will remain to ensure alignment with government priorities as the sole shareholder," stated a release from the territorial government on Tuesday. "The GNWT has engaged external experts to support the development of a structured appointment process, including a competency and skills matrix to assess candidates' qualifications."

The department adds it will prioritize candidates who provide independent oversight without major conflicts of interest related to government or other groups.

"Applicants are asked to provide a current resume as well as a cover letter describing how they meet the skills and experience requirements," it adds.
