NDP incumbent Lori Idlout is trying to stave off Liberal challenger Kilikvak Kabloona as Nunavut's final two polls have yet to report.

Idlout, the NDP incumbent MP, pulled in 2,822 votes with 64 of 66 polls reporting while Kabloona was the choice on 2,768 ballots, giving Idlout just a 54 vote lead.

Conservative James T. Arreak garnered 1,968 votes.

To this point, Nunavut's voter turnout is showing as 35.4 per cent. That's far below the NWT's 51.3 per cent and Yukon's 72 per cent.

Answering questions from Nunavut News during the election campaign, Idlout, who was a practising lawyer prior to her foray into federal politics, said her focus is on working towards increasing resources and ensuring the skills, wisdom and knowledge Nunavummiut have are utilized to help make the territory secure and prosperous.
