The Nunavut Liquor and Cannabis Board has fined the Iqaluit Legion $10,000 and suspended its liquor licence for six days, effective at noon on Friday, July 12, until Thursday, July 18.
The Legion pleaded guilty to two charges of violating Nunavut's Liquor Act. One charge related to serving liquor to an intoxicated person while the other charge was for obstructing a liquor inspector.
The Legion has acknowledged the seriousness of the offence of obstructing a liquor inspector in the performance of their duty to enforce the Liquor Act after the liquor board expressed serious concern over the matter, according to a July 8 news release from the Nunavut Liquor and Cannabis Board. The guilty party has assured the board that it has subsequently taken steps to provide its staff with training so to prevent future incidents of a similar nature, the news release added.
