Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) chief returning officer Monica Ell-Kanayuk has announced that Jeremy Tunraluk was elected president of NTI with 34.4 per cent of votes.
His term is effective as of Dec. 10, and will span four years, until December 2028.
Voter turnout was approximately 67 per cent. Nicole Camphaug, Cathy Towtongie and Andrew Nakashuk also made bids for the office.
The NTI president is a core member of NTI board of directors and executive committee, as well as the chairperson, director and/or trustee of the following entities and organizations:
-Nunavut Tunngavik Foundation: delivering programs related to promoting Inuit languages, culture and healing from residential schools
-Makigiaqta Inuit Training Corporation: delivering programs related to Inuit training and education
-NTI Economic and Social Initiatives Inc.: a holding company for Atuqtuarvik Corporation that provides financing for Inuit firms
-Nunavut Social Development Council: established under Article 32 of the Nunavut Agreement
-Elders Supplemental Trust: Providing a monthly payment to Elders from NTISA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s portion of resource royalties, a program called Uqqujjait Innarnut
-Nunavut Inuit Resource Revenue Trust: Managing resource revenue from Inuit-owned lands
