The Kivalliq Inuit Association (KIA) announced the conclusion of its board of directors spring meeting on May 24.

In a press release, the KIA announced that a number of resolutions were passed during the meeting, as well as appointments to various committees.

The board reached approval on recommending the appointment of Hamish Tatty of Rankin Inlet to the Nunavut Impact Review Board for a three-year term, as well as recommending the appointment of Harry Aggark of Chesterfield Inlet to the Nunavut Water Board for a term of three years, as well as approval of a donation of North of 60 Saint Vincent de Paul for the shipment of food sea containers for their 2024 project.

Additionally, the board of directors discussed and raised concerns pertaining to the high cost of shipping through Canada Post. KIA has committed to look for support from the federal government for more affordable shipping.

The KIA also received an update from Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. staff in regards to the draft land use plan.

The final item discussed was the legacy fund Kivalliq-Wide Community Tour. KIA board members and staff were provided an update and tentative schedule for the president and respective members to complete a Kivalliq-Wide Community Tour at the beginning of July to discuss the legacy fund and its objectives.

More details and information about the tour will be released as the dates draw closer.
