Man arrested after handgun pointed outside Stanton hospital

Yellowknife have arrested one person after a firearm was allegedly brandished outside Stanton Territorial Hospital on Saturday, police say.

"At approximately 3:25 p.m., Yellowknife received a report that an individual had pointed a handgun at a security officer outside the hospital. The suspect then fled the scene. Officers, including a Police Dog Services unit, began searching for the suspect," according to the  on Monday.

About 20 minutes after the first call, located a suspect. Brenden Qirngnirq, 25, of Yellowknife, was arrested without incident.

No injuries were reported, the police noted.

Qirngnirq is charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order.

He appeared before a justice of the peace and was remanded into custody. The investigation remains ongoing, the stated.
