in Pangnirtung are investigating a violent episode that resulted in the victim being hospitalized in Ottawa.

Gregory Atagoyuk, 23, has been charged with attempted murder and carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence.

The charges follow an investigation based on an incident that took place on Oct. 14 at approximately 4:30 a.m. The Pangnirtung responded to a call that a male sustained serious injuries during an attack with a weapon, which was unspecified in the 's Oct. 15 news release.

Upon arrival at the health centre, police officers applied first aid to the victim and continued to provide aid until health professionals arrived. The victim had sustained multiple lacerations to his body. He was later transferred to Ottawa for further medical treatment. 

After further investigation, the Pangnirtung learned that the assault took place outside in the 700 block.

Atagoyuk was later identified and arrested without incident.
