The leader of the Conservative party, Pierre Poilievre, is coming to Yellowknife Sunday, Sept. 8.

It's his first time in the NWT since winning the party's leadership in 2022.

The event will be happening at the Explorer Hotel at 11:45 a.m. and it's part of his "axe the tax" rally, referring to the carbon tax.

The carbon tax is a charge on fossil fuels. It applies to business and homes.

The NWT hasn't had a conservative MP since 1988. The current candidate to be the next conservative MP is Kimberly Fairman. She beat Jackie Jacobson last month, who then contested the nomination. His appeal was rejected.
