Police arrest man following Rankin Inlet death

Shelter-in-place alert was issued in the community

A recent death in Rankin Inlet is suspicious in nature, according to the .

A woman is dead and a man is in custody following a death in Rankin Inlet during the early morning hours of Friday, June 7.

A press release issued by the stated that at about 1 a.m. on June 7, officers located a deceased individual. 

The police deemed the death suspicious in nature, were able to identify a suspect and began searching for that individual.

This caused the to issue a shelter-in-place alert.  

The suspect was located later the same morning and additional alert updates were broadcast to the community.

At around 10:30 a.m., the male suspect was arrested without incident. 

The community was further advised that people could expect an additional police presence in Rankin Inlet during the 's efforts in continuing the investigation.

The Nunavut Major Crimes Unit is taking over the investigation.  

The will not provide additional information about this investigation at this time, although the police force indicated that updates will be provided when available. 

In a separate release, the thanked the residents of Rankin Inlet for their patience and co-operation during the ordeal.
