Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) has confirmed a "tragic accident" resulting in the death of an electrician occurred in Naujaat on July 5.

"QEC is deeply saddened," said Natalia Korochkova, manager of corporate communications for QEC. "Our condolences go out to the family, friends and our colleagues affected by this loss."

Korochkova added that the organization "is fully cooperating with the investigation to understand the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident as the safety and well-being of QEC's employees are our foremost concern."

She stated "that QEC is committed to providing ongoing support to the family during this difficult time and are offering counselling services to all our employees."

No additional details were provided as the investigation is still ongoing. 

Earlier this week, the Workers Safety and Compensation Commission acknowledged it was investigating a workplace death but would not disclose any other information.
