Qulliq Energy Corporation revealed Wednesday a 7,000-litre fuel spill in Rankin Inlet that was discovered on Thursday, July 18.

The fuel leaked from the power plant's overfill system, according to the power company, which has crews investigating the incident.

"This spill has been contained and there is no evidence that the diesel fuel has moved beyond the affected area," Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) stated. "There is no immediate danger to the public due to ongoing mitigation efforts. QEC will provide an update when a full assessment has been completed. The corporation apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause the community."

In a separate incident on July 22, an estimated 5,000 litres of gasoline leaked from the fuel tank farm in Sanikiluaq, which belongs to the GN's Petroleum Products Division.
