If you've received a call from someone claiming to be fundraising on behalf of the City of Yellowknife, you did the right thing if you hung up right away.

The city is warning residents about calls being made soliciting donations from someone allegedly representing an organization called the Canadian National Fire Association to go toward helping the city's firefighters. It's all a scam.

A quick search by SA国际影视传媒 on Wednesday found no organization matching such a name anywhere.

In a release Wednesday, city spokesperson Saxon Chung stated that the city will never solicit donations from the public through any means and that any calls received from anyone claiming to be doing so should be considered fraudulent.

"We urge residents to remain cautious if they receive unsolicited calls requesting donations, and to refrain from providing any personal or financial information over the phone," he wrote.

Chung also reminded residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the or call the centre toll-free at 1-888-495-8501.

The CAFC also recommends reporting any suspected fraud to police in addition to contacting them. It says law enforcement can investigate any incident with information collected through any report given.
