Two people are facing multiple charges following the execution of a search warrant in Hay River on Dec. 6 that turned up drugs and stolen guns.
According to a release on Tuesday afternoon, Hay River were called to a residence at Rowe's Trailer Court after a report of an assault. Police found out that the same residence dealing in both narcotics and firearms.
After obtaining a search warrant for the residence, officers found three long guns, including a sawed-off shotgun, believed to be recently stolen in town, a replica pistol, approximately five grams of suspected fentanyl, approximately one gram of suspected crystal meth and a small quantity of illicit cannabis.
Brittany Amelia, 38, and Roberto Amelia, 31, both of Hay River, were arrested at the scene and charged with several offences including assault, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, and unsafe storage of a firearm. Roberto Amelia is facing an additional charge of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose after a concealed machete and baton were found during the search.
Both accused were conditionally released and will appear in court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.
