Hay River has just one race this time around for its municipal election, that being for town council. The mayor's race, or lack thereof, had already been decided as Kandia Jameson was acclaimed as she was the only one to put her name forth for the town's top job.
There was also no race for the town's district education authority as the minimum number of candidates put their names forward and all were acclaimed.
A total of 11 candidates put their names forth to try and win one of the eight seats on town council and several incumbents will be returning to serve another three-year term.
Keith Dohey, who was deputy mayor during the previous town council, is back and received the largest number of votes cast with 550, according to the results signed off on by returning officer Heather Coakwell. Tom Lakusta is one of the new names to council as he received the second largest number of votes with 515.
The other incumbents to win re-election include Linda Duford, Karen Wall and Brian Willows, while two new faces will join in the form of Corinna Gagnier and Rena Squirrel.
