The Speaker of the legislative assembly has dismissed a minister's claim that an MLA was afoul of decorum.
The issue stems from Finance Minister Caroline Wawzonek's point of order last week regarding a Facebook post by Range Lake MLA Kieron Testart.
"As long as cabinet has their supporters in line, the entire process is little more than accountability theatre while backroom deals are being made," his online post reads.
Wawzonek argued that such language affects MLAs' relationships and their ability to communicate. If a regular MLA sides with cabinet on a decision, they can expect to receive backlash on social media, she contended.
Speaker Shane Thompson said the post did not require his intervention, but warned that certain statements made outside the legislature can result in that outcome.
He also said there's been an uptick in complaints made about MLAs by other MLAs, which he described as concerning.
