Kimmirut is still under a state of emergency as of Sunday morning.

Community and Government Services (CGS) Minister David Joanasie made the announcement on Saturday under the territory's Emergency Measures Act. The community has been without power since Oct.31, nearly two full days as of Saturday.

"Nunavut Emergency Management is working closely with local and territorial partners to respond to the needs of community members,SA国际影视传媒 stated Joanasie. SA国际影视传媒淲e are committed to finding solutions to ensure the safety and security of everyone impacted.SA国际影视传媒

According to the release from the GN on Saturday, Qulliq Energy reported a complete community power loss on Halloween. There is apparently limited backup power generation is available with Qaqqalik School being used as a warming centre for the community.

A further post from Joanasie stated that buildings that have generators include the school, water treatment plant, health centre and airport.

A Saturday evening release from the GN stated that air charters have been arranged to speed up the transportation of equipment and staff to the community. The Departments of CGS, Health, Education, Economic Development and Transportation, along with the Nunavut Housing Corporation and Qulliq are also working with corporate partners to try and build up groceries and supplies for Qaqqalik School.

Several posts on social media told of supplies quickly running out and people doing their best to cook food for the community at both the school and community hall, but it won't last much longer.

"The need to declare a state of emergency at this time is to expedite the processes and provide the necessary supports to the hamlet," stated the release. "This will also give the GN additional authority to control and assign assets of GN departments and public agencies under the Emergency Measures Act."

The school's kitchen is open and providing meals to community members from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and again in the evenings with dinner service starting around 6 p.m.

The school can be used as a place to sleep for people, though they're being asked to bring blankets and pillows. CGS was also coordinating the delivery of additional food supplies Saturday evening to make sure enough was on hand for everyone.

Services at the community's health centre have been reduced because of the situation, according to the Department of Health. Only emergencies will be seen right now.

CGS' petroleum products division is still providing fuel to the community through the Co-op store through direct sales, but there is a warning to anyone who is thinking about using a gas or camping stove indoors to try and keep warm as they can release carbon monoxide fumes into the air.

A boil water advisory is also in effect for the community until further notice, but people can visit the school with water jugs for personal use.

If residents end up with frozen pipes in their homes, theyre being asked to contact their landlord. The evenign release stated that the Nunavut Housing Corporation was bringing in additional resources to assess its own assets.

The state of emergency will remain in place for up to 14 days from Saturday. SA国际影视传媒 will have more details as they become available.
