A telecommunications service is facing an unexpected outage in Yellowknife.
Iristel, the service provider in question, published a brief update on its website on Wednesday explaining it has a public switched telephone network (PSTN) outage in the city.
PSTN refers to a network used for landline telephone systems. The outage would mean that these types of phones cannot make or receive calls.
"The issue is attributed to a possible device failure in our data centre," according to the company. "We are working with our field operations team to have this checked and rectified."
The issue started on Dec. 17 and there is no indication when it might be fixed.
