Members of the OldsCool team to capture the All Male Slo-Pitch tournament in Iqaluit on July 9 are, back row, from left, Craig Aglukark, Ryan Bayne, Andrew Simms, Keith Sigurdson, Cody Dean and Louis Nutarariaq. Front row, from left, Freddy Hutchins, Luc Joamie, Jimmy Twerdin and Neil Kigutaq.

Three was the lucky number for the OldsCool team that captured the All-Male Slo-Pitch tournament in Iqaluit this past week, with three Rankin Inlet players being randomly selected to the champion squad.

Five male teams competed in the double-elimination event. Four female squads were registered in an all-female division.

OldsCool took out the Iqaluit Specials in the final two games of the tourney to capture the crown.

Andrew Simms, who was also named the tournament's most valuable player, said Cody Dean and Keith (Butch) Sigurdson were also randomly selected along with himself to play on the OldsCool team.

He said there are definite differences between the ball fields in Iqaluit and Rankin Inlet that present unique challenges.

SA国际影视传媒The Rankin field is a little bit bigger and its turf is a lot better too,SA国际影视传媒 said Simms.

SA国际影视传媒You have more space to hit on the Rankin field and, in Iqaluit, it's a bit scarier for the infield players because the gravel they have in there is pretty rough.

SA国际影视传媒You see a lot of bad bounces in the Iqaluit infield, big time, during the tournament. You never really know where a ground ball is going to go in the infield.SA国际影视传媒

Simms said OldsCool had to beat the Specials twice when they were the last two teams standing in the double-elimination format.

He said OldsCool took the first game by a pair of runs, before winning the final game via the mercy rule after five innings.

SA国际影视传媒The intensity seemed to go away over the last two games and our bats got really hot in the final game.

SA国际影视传媒It's fun playing ball, pretty much, anywhere, but I really miss the crew I always play with in Rankin. I have some friends on that team who I've played with for, at least, the past 10 years.

SA国际影视传媒I was supposed to get back to Rankin for the Calm Air Cup last year but it didn't work out, and I won't be able to make it this year either due to work commitments.

SA国际影视传媒It was fun having the three of us on the winning team this year, even though Cody missed the first couple of games due to work, and I'm really looking forward to the next chance I get to play in a tournament in Rankin.SA国际影视传媒
