Multiple ice and winter roads have closed in the span of 24 hours, with others being left on 24-hours notice.

The Wekweeti Winter Road is now closed for the season. The territorial government made the call on April 9, a day after announcing the closure of the Dettah Ice Road.

In fact, less than a day after the Dettah Ice Road was put on 48-hours notice, the GNWT ended up pulling the plug on the seasonal route altogether.

Currently, the Gameti Winter Woad is on 24-hours notice, but could close sooner, according to the territorial government.

Many of these roads are closing sooner than their 20-year average. For Dettah, although it opened a few days earlier than its 20-year average, it also closed about a week earlier than its average date of April 16.

The 20-year average closing date for the Gameti Road is April 15. And the 10-year average closing date for Wekweeti is also April 15.

The Colville Lake Winter Road lasted longer than its decades-long average by five days, however, closing on April 7.

Temperatures are expected to climb as high as 6 C this week, leaving much slush in its wake.
