Welcome to spring weather, more daylight and warmer weather up here on the island.

Many communities are busy celebrating with festivals, with games, races and spending more time outdoors. Quana to our neighbours in Kugluktuk, who just wrapped up their Nattiq Frolics, now it will be Cambridge Bay's turn to celebrate with this year's Umingmak Frolics, or ALLIAHUGNIKMUN ULAPQITA.

With warmer weather, school students and staff are going out on land to enjoy the more inviting conditions and, at the same time, teaching what Inuit, our ancestors, did to carry on cultural teachings and traditions.

This is very important for our youth. Quana to see this happening in our own schools in Cambridge Bay. The annual festival this year is scheduled from May 10-19, with activities such as snowmobile races, games, good food and dances. Some events are held outdoors on the ice.

People in Cambridge Bay and all across the Kitikmeot region and elsewhere in Nunavut are very proud of Bobby Elatiak Greenley, who received the King Charles III Coronation Medal for all his work for Inuit and his homeland. It is well-deserved. We love you Bobby. Quana for all you have done for everyone over many years. You have committed and cared to improving life up north, making it much better. Quana to Senator P.J. Prosper and Claudine Santos and staff for coming to our community to present this award and to recognize Bobby for the work he has done for all.

With the climate changing up north on the land, ice melts are being closely monitored. Let us celebrate and welcome the spring season. Ice fishing and setting fish nets will be plenty. Please watch for ice cracks and the popular ice road to WestArm.

Time to get brown from the sun, wear sunglasses, especially ensure kids have sunglasses this time of year to avoid snow blindness. Enjoy spring. Happy Easter, everyone.

God Be With You Son. Jade is growing and well-loved.
