The long weekend got off to a horrific start after a female pedestrian was apparently struck by a pickup truck and left unconscious at the corner of 50 Street and 50 Avenue in downtown Yellowknife around 5 p.m. Friday.

Bystanders looked on in horror, some crying, as the woman laid unresponsive just outside the crosswalk on 50 Street as a pool of blood formed around her head. A black GMC pickup truck, its driver's door ajar, was stopped on the road in front of her facing south while a man, who appeared to be the driver, spoke with bystanders and looked on anxiously waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

Onlookers gathered on both sides of the street as some tried to comfort the unresponsive woman and provide first aid. A single ambulance arrived after about 10 minutes followed by another ambulance and an vehicle.

The injured woman was rolled onto a back board and loaded onto the ambulance before being taken. The woman, her head and upper body covered in blood, remained unresponsive the entire time.

The woman's current condition was unknown as of Friday evening. SA国际影视传媒 will provide updates as they become available.
