One of the biggest events of the cross-country ski season took place last weekend and it was another full house.
The Yellowknife Gold Loppet once again emanated from Vee Lake with dozens and dozens of skiers taking on either the 4 km, 15 km or 25 km courses. The route saw skiers start at Vee Lake and make their around Jackson Lake, Banting Lake or Walsh Lake, depending on the course they were navigating.
Adam Clinton could probably claim the ironman award as he skied an amazing 101.9 km on the day, according to Alyssa Titus, the event's organizer.
Once it was all over, skiers were invited back to the Yellowknife Ski Club's chalet for chili.
Next up for the ski club is the Territorial Cross-Country Ski Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
Ski club president Kerry Wheler said 125 athletes from Yellowknife, Fort Good Hope and Hay River are scheduled to line up and compete in several different age categories.
"Saturday is an individual start event, meaning that skiers will start in 15-second intervals with time gaps between each category," Wheler explained. "The youngest skiers will ski first. The first start will be either 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m., depending on conditions."
Sunday will feature a series of mass start races, meaning everyone takes off from the start at the same time.
