The NWT 's Major Crimes Unit has closed its investigation into a homicide that occurred in May 2024.
The case in question happened when police responded to an apartment complex on Con Road just after midnight on May 17. A 30-year-old male, identified later as Jonathan Gon, was found with a gunshot wound and eventually died at the scene after resuscitation attempts by paramedics failed.
At the time, it was the fourth gun-related death in the city in a six-month span.
In a release from Thursday morning, the Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and subsequently identified a suspect in the shooting. As investigators were working to collect evidence to support charges in relation to the case, information came in that the suspect had died out of territory. Investigators continued to investigate the homicide and have since ruled out the potential that anyone else was involved in Gon's death except the now-deceased individual.
"At this time, the investigation into this incident has been concluded and the are not looking for other suspects," stated spokesperson Cst. Josh Seaward. "Jonathan GonSA国际影视传媒檚 family has been kept up to date at every stage of this investigation and was notified of the conclusion of the investigation."
