A 14-year-old girl is facing a murder charge after a fatal stabbing in Fort Good Hope over the weekend.
According to a release from on Monday afternoon, officers were called to a residence in the community on Sunday at around 11:20 a.m. after being told of a female being stabbed. When they arrived, they found the victim suffering from severe injuries. The victim was taken to the community's health centre, but died shortly after arriving.
The suspect was charged with murder and appeared before a Justice of the Peace, where she was remanded into custody until a court appearance in Yellowknife on Tuesday. She can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The G Division Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation in tandem with the Office of the Chief Coroner. Forensic Identification Service is also helping with the investigation.
