Inuvik's colder-than-normal summer didn't stop the Roads End Golf Course from hosting its first men's golf league and tournament this summer.

The tournament took place August 25. Prizes were awarded and a pig roast was shared by all.
Dunbar, the league and tournament organizer, said the inaugural season was a great success.
A group of approximately 20 men got together at the golf course every Thursday to play a round of six holes.
He said he hoped the league would get people together to play at the golf course more often.
"There's always a couple of guys down there playing, but I thought it would be good to get everybody together regularly for more of a social event once a week," said Dunbar. "It went really well. I think our numbers show a great success for the first year."
The league took place over 10 weeks this summer, and Dunbar said he thinks it encouraged people to get out to the course and play when they wouldn't otherwise have, especially given the dreary summer Inuvik has seen.
"A lot of the Thursdays we were out there playing, the weather was pretty miserable," he said. "I don't think many of us would have been out there if it weren't for the league."
Dunbar said he hopes to organize a similar league and finale tournament next year, and encourages those who are interested to get involved.
"I think it is important because it does bring people out and you get to meet people in the community that you normally probably wouldn't," said Dunbar. "We're really hoping to up our numbers for next year and get more people involved."
