Fishing derby season is about to swim its way across the Kivalliq region and Arviat has announced its annual Trout and Pike Derby has been set for this upcoming month from May 3 to 5.
The top 10 prize monies up for grabs to the most successful fisher in each category of pike and trout are identical this year, with first place winning $5,000, fourth place $4,000, third place $3,000, second place $2,000 and fifth place $1,000.
The sixth-place finisher earns $750, seventh $500, eighth $400, ninth $300 and tenth $250.

A ceremony will be held at the Baker Lake Community Hall on April 24, beginning at 1:30 p.m., to recognize the efforts of the six students who graduated from the recent ABE Essential Skills program in Baker.

The hamlet of Rankin Inlet has tentatively set May 1 to 6 as the dates for the communitySA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s upcoming annual spring festival, Pakallak Tyme.
The hamlet was scheduled to hold another volunteer-community groups meeting on April 16 to continue planning and organizing the event.
