Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for much of the Mackenzie Delta and the Dempster Highway.
A bulletin was issued at 3:20 p.m. May 23.
"A spring storm will bring freezing rain and heavy snow to parts of the Mackenzie Delta on Friday. Freezing rain or wet snow will change to snow during the day Friday," reads the bulletin. "Total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres are expected before the storm ends Saturday morning. Snowfall amounts will be lower near Tsiigehtchic where rain is likely during the day Friday.
"Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery."
The warning is extended across much of the Dempster Highway into Yukon, with wind gusts from 40 to 60 kilometres per hour expected on top of the snow, freezing rain and other driving hazards expected.
