Aurora College receives $1.5 million in grant funding from feds

Funding will be used to expand research and education programs

Aurora College is getting $1.5 million over the next five years from the federal government to expand its research programs.

Aurora College is getting $1.5 million from the federal government over five years to fund research.

The multi-campus research and education body was named the recipient of the Mobilizing Applied Research in a Changing NWT grant administered by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) on Oct. 10. It is one of eight grants doled out by the agency, which is one of the three main sources of federal funding for natural sciences.

SA国际影视传媒淭he NSERC Mobilize Grant will allow us to diversify our collaboration with local and Indigenous research partners, ensuring that our applied research reflects and responds to the priorities of the communities we serve," stated Dr. Chris Paci, vice-president of Aurora College. "This grant will not only support cutting-edge applied research but also help develop a skilled workforce that will drive innovation and sustainable development across the North.SA国际影视传媒

Funding from the grant will be directed to expanding faculty engagement, improving student training and developing community innovations.

The college states it will also facilitate more cooperation between itself and Indigenous governments through the newly created Partnership Development and Knowledge Mobilization Funds. With eyes towards economic diversification, the college also stated the grant will allow it to expand applied research with partnerships and new economic opportunities in mind.

The funding will also be used to hired more research staff, provide more financial awards for students and provide students with more paid opportunities to participate in research starting next year.
