Arctic Market announces 2025 dates

The Inuvik Arctic Market is coming back strong in 2025 with 21 dates planned throughout the year.

Starting with a Jan. 11 showing as part of the Inuvik Sunrise Festival, the market will continue through March, April and May, and then every Saturday from June 7 to Aug. 23. Following that, the event will have two showings in September and then one each month for the remainder of the year.

Town council avoids tax increase in 2025 budget

Homeowners will not have to fish under their couch cushions to cover extra property taxes in 2025 after Inuvik Town Council approved an interim operating budget and capital tax budget at its last meeting in 2024. Following an in-camera session on Dec. 11, council approved the $18.4-million operating budget and a $7-million capital budget.

"Staff and council worked hard to reduce spending and identify other sources of revenue to not require a municipal tax increase," said Mayor Peter Clarkson. "Inuvik residents need a break from the ongoing cost of living increases."

The final budget will be approved in June after the town has confirmation of funding and revenue sources.
