Aquatic safety tips

As part of National Drowning Prevention week, Town of Inuvik aquatic staff will be at the boat launch on July 21 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. to offer lessons on life jacket safety, boat safety, waterfront and boat launch safety, and other tips when on the water. The event is free to attend and the town is promising snacks, swag, refreshments, music and even face painting.

Keep ATVs off Boot Lake Trail, asks mayor

Boot Lake trial is not to be used for all-terrain vehicles and motorized off-road vehicles, Mayor Clarence Wood is reminding residents. The mayor made a note of it in his monthly newsletter posted to the Town of Inuvik's social media feed. Noting the ATVs are doing considerable damage, the mayor added the town would hate to see a walker injured on the trail.

New monitoring of post-secondary education system

The GNWT has introduced a new way to monitor and evaluate the NWT post-secondary education system.

Called the "Post-Secondary Accountability Framework," it is designed to collect information and report to the public on how well the post-secondary education system is performing.

"This reporting aims to promote a shared understanding of how well the accredited post-secondary education institutions in the NWT contribute towards a system where every resident has the opportunity to reach their full potential by attending student-centred, accessible, high-quality, relevant and accountable post-secondary education," according to the GNWT's website.

The framework also has multiple goals, such as more transfer agreements, students attending NWT institutions from other jurisdictions and research projects partnered with NWT institutions.

Post-secondary institutions that are part of the framework must provide annual reports by whatever date is set out in a contribution agreement or Oct. 31 of the reporting year.
