Bear Cub warning at Inuvik Landfill

Officials with the Town of Inuvik are asking anyone at the Inuvik landfill to be on the lookout for a bear cub that was spotted in the area.

A notice was released on June 28.

"We have received reports of an unaccompanied bear cub in the area of the solid waste facility," states the notice. "Please be on high alert and take necessary safety precautions. The landfill operator is working with Environment and Climate Change to ensure everyoneSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s safety.

"Do not approach, keep your distance. Notify the landfill operator on site at the office, if observed."

Fiddle and Flow festival puts call out for Performers

Attention fiddlers, guitar players and other musicians: the Fiddle and Flow Festival is seeking performers. Accommodations, travel and a small performers fee will be included in the tender.

Don't drop honey bags in dumpsters, says town

Town officials are reminding residents to be mindful of the health of waste management workers and to not place honey bags in dumpsters.

"Our town garbage bins are meant for regular trash SA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½” let's do our part to keep our community healthy and safe," reads the notice. "Honey bags may disposed of at the dump free of charge. Larger amounts may be disposed of at the sewage lagoon upon request. Thank you for your cooperation."

Utility invoices delayed

The Town of Inuvik is informing ratepayers that invoices for May utilities have been delayed and won't be sent out until early July. As a result, the town is waiving any late penalties for bills from May. The municipality notes a late fee may still appear on the bill but it will be refunded the next month.
