Election scheduled for Fort McPherson

The writ has been dropped for the election of mayor and seven district education authority members to serve a two-year term in Fort McPherson.

An advance vote will be held Dec. 2 at hamlet council chambers. The deadline to register a proxy vote is Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. Election day is Dec. 9 and voting will be held at the Annie G. Robert Hamlet Office.

Elections scheduled for Ulukhaktok

Ulukhaktok is preparing for an election. As the community staggers its elections, this time around the writ will be dropped for mayor, four councillors and three district education authority members for two-year terms.

Nominations opened Oct. 28 and will close on Nov. 12. Election Day is Dec. 9.

Beaufort Beauty is shutting down

A local business is closing its doors after 14 years. Beaufort Beauty owner Stephanie White announced the operation will shut down as of Nov. 1. The last appointment will be Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. No explanation was given for the closure, but White expressed her thanks to the community for the many years of "relationships, conversations, laughs and tears."

Inuvik Pet Election results are in

The ballots are counted, the bellyrubs have been graded and Inuvik Pet Election 2024 is in the bag. The fundraiser brought in $1,455 for Arctic Paws as of Oct. 24. In total, 19 critters put their best paws forward for council and 13 contested the mayor's chair, with Boris the dog winning with 66 votes.
