Power outage planned for Inuvik

Inuvik will experience a planned power outage on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. as work on the new subdivision is completed. The Northwest Territories Power Corporation cautions a second outage may be required on Sept. 24 or 25 if the work isn't completed on time. The power corporation says an update will be released as soon as possible.

Power outage planned for Aklavik

Residents in Aklavik have been given nearly two weeks notice of a planned power outage on either Sept. 28 or 29. The Northwest Territories Power Corporation stated that the outage will occur on the airport side of town. It will occur so new modular homes can be brought into the community. A more precise date will be announced as the end of the month draws closer.

Mayor hosts U.S. ambassador

Inuvik Mayor Clarence Wood says United States Ambassador David Cohen has made good on an invite to Inuvik. The mayor announced he and newly-appointed senior administrative officer Cynthia Pihlaja met with the ambassador and consul general Emily Fleckner. The mayor says the ambassador is supportive of a greater military presence in Inuvik.

Halloween Dance is back

The Inuvik Fastball Association is hosting a Halloween party next month to help raise funds for next season. Tickets are $10 at the door and attendees must be at least 19 years old to enter. The party is set for Oct. 26 at the Midnight Sun Complex in the community hall.
