Kimberly Fairman said she hadnSA国际影视传媒檛 always plotted a career in politics. But that hasnSA国际影视传媒檛 stopped her from finding her own path in that realm.

SA国际影视传媒淚 think everything ISA国际影视传媒檝e done up to this point has led me to want to serve in this race,SA国际影视传媒� she said.

That race Fairman is talking about is the nomination to be the next Conservative Party candidate for the next federal election, which right now is scheduled to happen on Oct. 20, 2025, if not called sooner. SheSA国际影视传媒檚 up against former Nunakput MLA Jackie Jacobson for the candidacy.

Fairman has spent decades working in the public service and she noted her community work as well.

SA国际影视传媒淗ere in Yellowknife, ISA国际影视传媒檓 really proud to have been part of kickstarting the Yellwknife FarmersSA国际影视传媒� Market as an inaugural board member,SA国际影视传媒� Fairman said.

She explained she has always held conservative values, which is partly what drew her to that side of the political aisle. That, and sheSA国际影视传媒檚 fed up with the lack of consideration on Northern issues from the federal Liberals.

SA国际影视传媒淚SA国际影视传媒檓 really tired of whatSA国际影视传媒檚 happening here under the Liberal lead,SA国际影视传媒� she said. SA国际影视传媒淚 think, in general, the North struggles with having their issues heard in Ottawa. Under this government, itSA国际影视传媒檚 been particularly challenging.SA国际影视传媒�

Fairman said that conversely, the Conservatives have done a good job listening to Northerners and their issues.

Her professional background is in nursing and her current job is as executive director of the Institute for Circumpolar Health Research based in Yellowknife.

When it comes to social issues, one sheSA国际影视传媒檚 passionate about advocating for in the NWT is addiction.

SA国际影视传媒淚 do think we need to have recovery options here that are well-managed and tangible for folks SA国际影视传媒� they need to have some options,SA国际影视传媒� she said.

Fairman added she sees herself as the kind of person who can disagree with others respectfully. In the NWT, one of those disagreements tend to be what to do about the mining industry and its impact on the environment, she said.

SA国际影视传媒淚 think more and more of that is a complex discussion (and) I think there are a lot of perspectives in there,SA国际影视传媒� she said.

If thereSA国际影视传媒檚 one thing Fairman cares about overall, itSA国际影视传媒檚 visibility for the Conservatives in the NWT.

SA国际影视传媒淓ven at the stage now where weSA国际影视传媒檙e putting our names forward as contestants in the nomination process, there are things that I can do to raise the profile of the Conservative Party here in the NWT,SA国际影视传媒� she said. SA国际影视传媒淚 want to see a strong Conservative presence.SA国际影视传媒�

The only voters who are eligible are those residing in the NWT who purchased a party membership before April 5, said Matt Lakusta, president of the NWT Conservatives. He also said the date of the vote has not yet been finalized, but something should be set in the coming days.
