An Edmonton man is facing drug and weapon charges after an Inuvik investigation.
Police were called to a residence on Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. after receiving a complaint about an assault. Upon arrival, police noticed in the bedroom drug paraphernalia and other items consistent with drug trafficking, according to NT media relations officer Insp. Yannick Hamel.
Police then located a suspect hiding in the closet with 23 grams of suspected cocaine, bundled in 93 baggies. Upon further investigation, police found a modified and loaded .22 pump-action rifle with ammunition and a serial number that was filed down. Police also seized an undisclosed amount of cash from both the suspect and the residence.
Christ Nagateka, of Edmonton, is charged with possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, tampering with the serial number of a firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking and possessing of proceeds obtained by crime.
