Six candidates in race for Dene Nation national chief

Six individuals have been nominated to serve as Dene national chief.

Incumbent Gerald Antoine will be challenged by Gerry Cheezie, Paulie Chinna, George Mackenzie, April Martel and Norman YakeSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™eula.

Nominations opened on April 26 and closed on May 24 at 5 p.m. Candidates were required to be nominated by five active members of the Dene Nation, including two current Dene Nation chiefs.

The in-person election will take place on July 24 at the Dene National Assembly in Fort Good Hope. Those who cannot attend will have the option of electronic voting, providing that they are an eligible voter.

The organization is planning to hold a brief press conference on Monday morning at 10 a.m. to provide further details.
