Tsiigehtchic and Fort McPherson are finally able to access high-speed internet.

Northwestel announced the extension of the service in a press release Oct. 23, citing the activation of the Dempster Fibre Line as the means for the communities to be hooked up.

Residents will now be able to purchase high-speed internet packages from the telecommunications company, with download speeds up to 700 megabits per second.

Northwestel is also hoping to sell subscriptions to its television service in the community.

In June, a group of Northern Indigenous businesses announced their intention to purchase Northwestel from Bell Canada for up to $1 billion.
