City of Yellowknife warns of fraudulent text messages about parking

Some Yellowknife residents have been receiving fraudulent text messages relating to alleged parking infractions and the municipality is advising not to respond to them.

Some Yellowknife residents have been receiving fraudulent text messages relating to alleged parking infractions and the municipality is advising not to respond to them.

"The city has become aware of text messages sent to residents stating a parking issue is not resolved, with a link that leads to an unknown website. These text messages are not being sent from the city, as information from the city regarding enforcement matters would never be communicated in this manner." the municipality stated in a Sept. 4 news release. "Residents are advised not to click links from unknown senders and not provide personal information to sources that may be illegitimate."

Residents who have parking inquiries are instead urged to contact the Municipal Enforcement Division by calling (867) 920-5630, or sending an email to MEDadmin@yellowknife.ca or visiting city hall in person.
