Hay River make arrest after finding cannabis grow-op

A 70-year-old Hay River man has been charged with possessing more than four cannabis plants, which is the legal limit in Canada.

Police in the South Slave community say they responded to a call for service at a residence in August. While at the residence, officers noticed a large number of cannabis plants on the property.

On Sept. 6, after receiving authorization through the legal system, officers returned to the residence and executed a search warrant under the authority of the Cannabis Act. Forty cannabis plants were seized, 10 times what is currently permitted under the Cannabis Act.

The accused, who was not identified by the , will appear in court at a later date.
