Aklavik ice road closes for the season
ItSA国际影视传媒檚 official, the Aklavik ice road closed for the season as of 8 p.m. April 22. Initially expected to close on April 21, drivers were given an extra 24 hours to get back home after temperatures briefly dropped below freezing.
As of publication deadline, the Peel River and Mackenzie River ice crossings remain open to traffic.
Inuvik Community Events announces AGM
Community planners and organizers will want to mark May 26 on their calendars, as the Inuvik Community Events Society will host their annual general meeting at 2 p.m. with a regular board meeting to follow. A location is yet to be determined. All are welcome and light refreshments will be available. Inuvik Community Events Society is a nonprofit volunteer group that organizes events around town for residents and families.
Here comes the mace
The NWT legislative mace is making a tour around the territory and will be in the Beaufort Delta area this coming week. The symbolic sceptre honours the cultures of all 33 communities in the territory. House Speaker Shane Thompson will be providing lessons on the significance of the mace as part of the tour. The mace will make stops in Sachs Harbour and Ulukhaktok on April 29, Ulukhaktok and Paulatuk on April 30, Tuktoyaktuk on May 1 and Inuvik on May 2.
Energy Fair announced for start of May
Arctic Energy Alliance is hosting an Energy Fair on May 1 at the Inuvik Centennial Library.
The family-oriented event will include games, refreshments and dinner while it lasts, and runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Information on home maintenance and winterization will be available, as well as explanations of the services the organization provides.
