The Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce has released the list of nominees for the 2021 Business Resilience Awards.

Though there werenSA国际影视传媒檛 as many nominations as last year, the number remains pretty consistent according to Deneen Everett, the chamberSA国际影视传媒檚 executive director.

SA国际影视传媒淲e received 78 nominations this year, compared to 82 the previous year,SA国际影视传媒� she said. SA国际影视传媒淚 think that Yellowknifers understand the hardships that businesses have been facing and are looking for ways to support their favourite businesses.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the awards, which was originally incorporated in 1946.

SA国际影视传媒淭he organization has a long history of serving Yellowknife businesses,SA国际影视传媒� said Everett. SA国际影视传媒淭his is the eighth time weSA国际影视传媒檝e hosted the Business Awards and I think itSA国际影视传媒檚 becoming a Small Business Week tradition in Yellowknife. I remember the first time we hosted the awards back in 2014 and ISA国际影视传媒檓 proud of how itSA国际影视传媒檚 grown and the positive response we receive each year from our membership.SA国际影视传媒�

Due the pandemic, an in-person event will not be taking place. Other means of celebration are currently be looked into by the Chamber.

SA国际影视传媒淸We] will be sharing our plans in the coming days,SA国际影视传媒� said Everett.

For nominated businesses like Dan WongSA国际影视传媒檚 Jackpine Paddle, there hasnSA国际影视传媒檛 been much time to sit back and smell the roses.

SA国际影视传媒淚 appreciate it,SA国际影视传媒� said Wong. SA国际影视传媒淚 havenSA国际影视传媒檛 had any time to look into it SA国际影视传媒� because ISA国际影视传媒檝e been super busy running the business [laughs]. We still have a lot going on right now, weSA国际影视传媒檙e just finishing up a Northern Guide Training Program.SA国际影视传媒�

The program Wong refers to helps to bring a more Northern aspect to Northern tourism, which also brings the Northern element of WongSA国际影视传媒檚 business the forefront.

SA国际影视传媒淓very year we grow,SA国际影视传媒� said Wong. SA国际影视传媒淲eSA国际影视传媒檝e added a lot of new trips. I think right now, weSA国际影视传媒檙e really excited about our Northern Guide Training Program. In hunting, paddling, and fishing, thereSA国际影视传媒檚 actually not a lot of Northerners working in the field.

SA国际影视传媒淚nstead, thereSA国际影视传媒檚 a lot of Southern companies, bringing up Southern guides,SA国际影视传媒� he continued. SA国际影视传媒淎s a Northern-owned tourism business, weSA国际影视传媒檙e different from that and locally owned, and weSA国际影视传媒檙e trying to train more Northerners to have the skills that they need, the certifications to work in this outdoor adventure industry.SA国际影视传媒�

As for working in a pandemic, Wong says itSA国际影视传媒檚 been SA国际影视传媒渆xtremely busySA国际影视传媒� and thanks the community support.

SA国际影视传媒淲eSA国际影视传媒檝e definitely had to change our business model,SA国际影视传媒� he said. SA国际影视传媒淲eSA国际影视传媒檙e a tourism operator, so weSA国际影视传媒檝e lost the bulk of our revenue stream with the border restrictions, which are still ongoing.

SA国际影视传媒淲eSA国际影视传媒檝e really just had tremendous support locally,SA国际影视传媒� he continued. SA国际影视传媒淲e had out best summer ever in 2020, I mean every summer for us is our best summer ever since we started. WeSA国际影视传媒檙e fortunate, then, to build off that and this year looks like it could be the next best summer ever. So, itSA国际影视传媒檚 been a lot of hard work. For me, for our wilderness guides, our canoe and kayak instructors. But, weSA国际影视传媒檝e had just such a tremendous summer. ThatSA国际影视传媒檚 all thanks to Northerners.SA国际影视传媒�

Wong also thanked the government agencies for their support in helping his business during COVID times.

The same also goes for StanleySA国际影视传媒檚 Boxing and Fitness, where John Stanley was also grateful for the community support.

SA国际影视传媒淚tSA国际影视传媒檚 fantastic,SA国际影视传媒� said John Stanley. SA国际影视传媒淵ou know, weSA国际影视传媒檝e been working hard over the last couple of years, trying to adapted and adjust to everything thatSA国际影视传媒檚 been going on.

SA国际影视传媒淭o see that weSA国际影视传媒檙e helping our community, and people really feel that and appreciate what weSA国际影视传媒檙e doing. It makes us feel good, [it] makes it worthwhile for us.

SA国际影视传媒淲e canSA国际影视传媒檛 thank them enough, theySA国际影视传媒檙e the reason why weSA国际影视传媒檙e getting nominated for these awards,SA国际影视传媒� added Scott Thomson, co-owner. SA国际影视传媒淲eSA国际影视传媒檇 be lost without them.SA国际影视传媒�

Stanley also commented on the difficulties of working through the pandemic, saying it certainly impacts the business.

SA国际影视传媒淓specially right now,SA国际影视传媒� he said. SA国际影视传媒淏ecause weSA国际影视传媒檙e limited for numbers and all that stuff. We can only have 10 people in the class at a time, and thatSA国际影视传媒檚 difficult because some of our members are not able to make it into classes.

SA国际影视传媒淭hroughout the two year period,SA国际影视传媒� said Stanley. SA国际影视传媒淲eSA国际影视传媒檝e been able to adjust and pivot, and do everything weSA国际影视传媒檝e needed to do to keep our members happy. But, it has reduced revenue recently, for sure, and itSA国际影视传媒檚 a little frustrating because our members are trying to support us. TheySA国际影视传媒檙e paying for their memberships and sometimes their not able to get in. I feel like itSA国际影视传媒檚 one of those things thatSA国际影视传媒檚 SA国际影视传媒榳e want to do our part for the community, we want to follow regulations, and do everything as we shouldSA国际影视传媒�, but at the same time, weSA国际影视传媒檙e not quite able to do what we normally do.SA国际影视传媒�

As for what folks can expect from StanleySA国际影视传媒檚 Boxing and Fitness in the future, Stanley and crew will continue making adjustments as needed to keep things running.

SA国际影视传媒淥nce something comes out, we figure out a way we can service our clients around that,SA国际影视传媒� he said. SA国际影视传媒淔rom the kickboxing side of things, itSA国际影视传媒檚 difficult because we canSA国际影视传媒檛 compete or anything so itSA国际影视传媒檚 hard to keep people motivated, but weSA国际影视传媒檙e doing the best we can. WeSA国际影视传媒檙e always going to find a way service our clients one way or the other.

SA国际影视传媒淭hese are difficult times,SA国际影视传媒� he added. SA国际影视传媒淚tSA国际影视传媒檚 nobodySA国际影视传媒檚 fault, everybodySA国际影视传媒檚 just trying to get by and adapt kind of thing.SA国际影视传媒�
