Nunavut News was on scene at Four Corners in Iqaluit at approximately 2:25 p.m. on Tuesday when a man was arrested beside the Service Canada building after attempting to flee.
The sound of screams could be heard across from the Royal Bank. Two young girls had flagged down a police vehicle and sent officers in pursuit of a suspect they identified as allegedly being responsible for stabbing an 11-year-old boy in the chest the night before in the citySA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s downtown. The suspectSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s escape route on the other side of the Service Canada building was blocked by several bystanders who wouldnSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™t let him pass.
The sister of the victim, while clutching her friend in tears, said that her brother was on his way to visit at a friendSA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s house the previous night when the alleged assailant stopped him, asked him for cannabis, and then allegedly stabbed him.
The boy was taken to the hospital to be treated for a stab wound near his heart.
The boySA¹ú¼ÊÓ°ÊÓ´«Ã½™s father, who was on scene and present when police apprehended the suspect, then took his daughter and her friend back to the hospital.
